Hum, so gently, so softly,
I sing.
Flickering, dirty
Yellow notes glow
And flow from my cracked
Glass body, encased by ribcage
Of wrought-iron metal and
Tenderly flaking paint.
Crowd ‘round me,
For my warmth, child.
Lean upon my lithe
Frame your own of
Tired skin and bone.
I’ve caught you here this
Moth-coated night near
Street-gutter bums and
Twisted tin cans.
Don’t mind the
Wavering whine of
My electric human bulb.
I’m rooted
In cracked gum-speckled
Cement, for you. Illuminating
Winding caverns of dense air
Suffocating this city night, hide in
The mesmerizing sphere
Of my light, surrendering to
a siren’s song to sail you
Back home.
Hum, so gently, so softly
We sing.
