Men’s Basketball
With a 60-39 victory over Penn State, Northwestern has now won three straight games. The 'Cats held the Nittany Lions to 19 second-half points and 27 percent shooting for the game. Three Wildcats scored in double digits, and freshman Vic Law earned his first career double-double (17 points and 11 rebounds).
Grade: This was Northwestern’s best defensive performance in the last 10 years. A+
Lacrosse
No. 5 Northwestern secured a 13-6 victory over unranked Marquette behind freshman Selena Lasota’s six goals. On top of Lasota’s impressive performance, five other Wildcats scored in the victory. Four different NU players had assists during the match, and Northwestern committed eight fewer turnovers than the Golden Eagles. NU is now 3-1 on the season.
Grade: Stellar offensive and defensive performances, but that's expected when No. 5 plays an unranked team. A
Wrestling
Northwestern ended the regular dual season with a 31-12 win over George Mason and a 28-20 victory over American, winning 14 of 16 contested matches over the day. No ranked Wildcats lost to any opponent, and unranked NU wrestlers went 4-2.
Grade: One blowout and one hard-fought win makes for a good weekend. A
Women’s Swimming
Northwestern scored 138 points and placed 10th of 13 teams at the Big Ten championship meet. Over the course of the weekend, Northwestern’s best performances came in relay events, where they consistently placed in the top half of Big Ten teams.
Grade: Poor performances in individual events doomed the Wildcats. C-
Women’s Basketball
No. 25 Northwestern is now tied for third in the Big Ten after an 86-83 overtime win at Wisconsin extended the Wildcats' winning streak to seven games. Nia Coffey led NU with 21 points, four rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Four other Wildcats scored at least 11 points during the game. Despite being outrebounded 48-28, Northwestern had 18 steals and made 18 free throws during the win.
Grade: It was an extremely even battle, but the Wildcats came out on top. A
Fencing
Northwestern fencing matched up against Ohio State at the Midwest Fencing Conference Championship this past weekend. While beating the Buckeyes 5-4 in epee, NU lost in sabre (5-4) and foil (5-2). This was Northwestern’s first epee win at the competition in 13 years.
Grade: The epee win was nice, but Ohio State showed why they're ranked in the top 5. B
