Northwestern students are busy, with barely a moment to spare between classes, interviews and meetings. With so many different activities, it can be tough nail the perfect look for each one, and no one likes to wait through a day of classes in Tech stuck in their interview best. Here's a guide to going from class clothes to business casual in a few quick steps.
For the ladies:
When you're trying to keep your look versatile, black pants are your best friend. A pair of black skinny pants (not jeans) are casual enough for class but dress up easily for work or an interview, and a plain black tank lets you transition your outfit with ease.
When it's time to dress it up a bit, switch into a colored blazer and pretty flats. You get to keep your ensemble bright, fun and trendy, but still professional. Let your hair loose with the first outfit; when it's time to get down to business, pull it up into a quick ballerina bun for a bit of extra polish.

For guys, it can seem tough to bridge the gap between sweats and suits. For a quick-transition outfit, start with some slim khakis and a crisp button-up — classic items like these are casual but easy to dress up. Add another layer to show off your own taste — work in some hipstery style with a cardigan or get a little grungier with a leather jacket — and cuff your pants slightly to show off unique shoes or boots. No ensemble can go wrong with a classy, yet trendy, watch.
To dress it up, go for a dark blazer and throw on a tie (this burgundy one gives you an original but professional color palette). Classic Oxford dress shoes pull the whole thing together.
