    She pours the syrup on.

Sickly sweet rich honey sound so
    Lush it
    Captures waffle crevices
    In a sticky,
    Stronghold maze.

    Seized!
    Your crisp corners of sugar
And dough wrapped neatly with a
    Whip cream bow, resting
    On the chipped edge of
    A diner plate, painted
    With a chicken and
    A sun.

    Bent fork prongs attack, ruffle
    The rooster’s feathers
    Of ceramic time spent
Beneath piles of dusty hot confection.

    Cling!
    Your utensils are met
    With competing steel blades
    Lightly glazed with the
    Faint imprint of a maple
    Kiss.

    Your stomach’s shattered by
    A dent. Oh, how
    Quickly
    Breakfast went.
