Members of the Muslim Cultural Student Association (McSA) painted the Rock Sunday to advertise "Discover Islam Week," a series of events the group will be holding from Monday until Friday to spread knowledge of Muslim beliefs and culture.
The annual program, known in past years as "Islam Awareness Week," will feature panels, speakers and movie screenings including a showing of the documentary You Don't Like the Truth: 4 Days Inside Guantanamo at Ford Center at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
"The purpose of this week is really just to spread awareness of Islam, so more people can understand the true value of the religion," said SESP senior Nadia Ahmed, who helped paint the Rock Sunday night. "Events like these are important for that, and for providing a sense of community for the Muslims who live on campus."
