Rap group Shwayze performed at Sigma Chi’s 17th annual Derby Days Bash in the Norris Student Center Sunday evening.
Derby Days has been a nationwide tradition among Sigma Chi chapters since 1933 and a Northwestern tradition since 1994. The philanthropic event supports the Children’s Miracle Network, a non-profit organization that raises funds for more than 170 children’s hospitals. Children’s Miracle Network has raised more than $3.4 billion dollars to date.
Sigma Chi’s 17th Annual Derby Days Bash helped to raise more than $14,000 for the Children’s Miracle Network.
The event opened with Northwestern DJ The Chairman, who set the stage with a minimalist set and remixes of songs like “Glamorous” and “Weapon of Choice.”
Jason Smith, Shwayze’s DJ, performed next, and stirred up the crowd with renditions of “Like a G6” and “Teenage Dream.” The crowd went wild when Smith gave the finger during a remix of “Fuck You.”
The audience chanted “Shwayze” as the duo Aaron Smith and Cisco Adler came on stage.
“Where all my broke motherfuckers at?” shouted Adler before going into a performance of “Rich Girl.”
The night continued with popular Shwayze songs like “Corona and Lime,” “Buzzin’” and “High Together.” Shwayze interacted with the Northwestern students, commenting that Northwestern students are “Big Ten, Big Brains.”
The audience’s reaction reached a peak when Adler called up two girls from different sororities to the stage for a wrestling match. “No dancing, wrestling!” Smith yelled as the girls danced with the rap duo.
