Pick-Staiger’s fall season kicked off last night with a free musicale by distinguished faculty members from the Bienen School of Music.

The musicale began at 7:30 p.m. to a crowded Pick-Staiger Concert Hall and featured music from distinguished classical composers such as Brahms, Chopin and Bach.

The performances started with a violin and piano duet from Bienen Professors Gerardo Ribeiro and James Giles, who performed renditions of two Brahms classics. Giles returned to the stage later to perform two Chopin piano solos. The music continued with two vocal performances from Professor Kurt R. Hansen, accompanied by vocal coach Karina Kontorovitch on piano.

Professor Andrew Raciti performed two string bass pieces, the first of which was accompanied by Professor Nolan Pearson on the piano.

The night ended with dueling pianists Professor Sylvia Wang and Senior Lecturer Elizabeth Buccheri performing the upbeat Piazzola piece, Libertango. Professor Wang brought the night to an end with a roaring sing-along.

The reason? It was fellow pianist Buccheri’s birthday.
