As Feb. 8 marked the start of the new year in the Chinese lunar calendar, Northwestern students celebrated the week-long Chinese holiday with performances.

Chinese Student Association and Taiwanese American Students Club hosted Celebrasia: Year of the Monkey on the evening of Saturday, Feb. 13 in Cahn Auditorium. The event gathered  more than two hundred students and staff to celebrate the Chinese New Year together with dance, music and other performances.

The show featured professional artists including singer-songwriter Kina Grannis, and America’s Best Dance Crew runner-up Kinjaz, as well as student groups including East-Asian interest a cappella Treblemakers and Refresh Dance Crew.

Performances by illusionist Joseph Tran and comedian Eliot Chang added more variety to the show. A short film, “Primates of the Caribbean”, casted by Northwestern students, was divided into several segments and played in between performances.
