Born of the night

Darkness appeals to me more than the light.

A morning bird’s song can hardly compare

To the wolf’s haunting bay at the moon.

Nor did a man ever question the

Majesty of the galaxies that sleep on a blanket of black.

    Darkness suits me far more

    Than her outshining brother,

For flamboyance never was a trait I did uphold.

Closer to me is my shadow,

Than the fiery ball under which I bake

Like a bird dressed for supper.

Darkness I would befriend quicker than light,

As I hope and I fear I was born of the night.
