ASG update, Feb. 16: Exec talks transition behind closed doors, plans mailroom alerts

    On Wednesday, Claire Lew and company discussed transitioning into the next administration while also tying up some of the loose ends on this administration’s goals.

    Brothelgate update. Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl and several Evanston aldermen backed out of a meeting with ASG representatives scheduled for next week. However, they are still scheduled to attend the Senate meeting March 2 to discuss ASG proposals with regard to the “three unrelated” ordinance.

    ASG talks transition, kicks out reporters.With spring approaching, ASG exec board members have 3 to 5 weeks remaining on their term, depending on each individual’s position. The first transitions will come at the start of spring quarter. Though no one has officially announced their candidacy for any ASG executive positions, rumors are beginning to swirl; announcements can be expected within the next few weeks. ASG asked the press to leave the room during a portion of this discussion.

    Mailroom email alerts coming — maybe. Vice President Hiro Kawashima has spearheaded an effort to create a new email alert system that would notify students when they have received anything at their campus mailroom. The project, which Kawashima hopes to have approved by Assistant Director of Residential Life Ryan Reinhart, would provide a convenience for students without a mailroom in their dorm.

    The New Student Center Initiative saga continues. Claire Lew and several other ASG reps will meet with University officials once again this weekend to commence talks on the actual specifics of potential relocations from Norris. No official costs or other figures have been determined.

    ASG coming to your inboxes soon. Two new student media sources should soon be available to Northwestern students. A weekly campus-wide newsletter and an updated student website are in the final stages of production. ASG spokesman Matt Bellassai noted that student group content is being aggregated for the newsletter, which could begin circulating before winter quarter concludes. As for “Noogle,” essentially an expanded version of the current NULink website, it will be presented to ASG members this weekend. After that, they will fix any remaining bugs before going live on a similar timetable.
