Members of the African Students Association (ASA) painted the Rock on Thursday night in honor of African Awareness Month. The ASA is holding a series of activities throughout the month following the theme "the Kony effect," focusing on youth involvement and uprisings in Africa.
"[The ASA] has been around since 1999, and we've always looked for ways to highlight significant aspects of our culture and build community," said Communication sophomore Michelle Byamugisha, president of the ASA. "This year we really wanted to focus on the whole Kony movement to highlight the power of youth activism."
The ASA will hold its next event, "Africa In Motion," an African dance exhibition and workshop, on April 29 at 6 p.m. in the Jones Great Room.
