Canadian indie rock band The New Pornographers will be the daytime headliner at Dillo Day, Mayfest announced at Battle of the Bands tonight. Since their formation in 1997 the band has released five albums, including their well-known debut Mass Romantic. Nearly all of the band’s work has been met with strongly positive critical reception, making The New Pornographers indie rock mainstays.
The Vancouver-based supergroup consists of musicians from other respected indie rock projects, the most famous being singer-songwriter Neko Case. The New Pornographer’s sound is obviously indebted to power pop acts like The Kinks and The Cars, but also incorporates quirky vocals and unusual chord progressions that recall indie bands like Neutral Milk Hotel. The group’s most recent album is 2010’s Together.
Stay tuned for more updates.
