Austin Young elected new ASG President
By ,

Weinberg juniors Austin Young and Ash Jaidev won the ASG presidential campaign, the Election Committee announced Wednesday night. Young and Jaidev received 53.57 percent of the vote, while Matt Bellassai and Jazzy Johnson received 39.07 percent, according to the Election Committee.

McCormick junior Katie Bradford, the current student life vice president, and Weinberg junior Gabby Daniels, the current academic vice president, were both reelected to their positions.

In Rogers House, Young’s campaign team exploded in excitement when Election Commissioner Elizabeth Broder called the presidential candidate. After jumping in the air, Young paused and asked her, “Wait, are you serious?”

“I am super excited, very honored and really humbled to be able to serve,” Young said.

He doesn’t know how he’s going to celebrate tonight, but he hopes it involves the whole campaign team. “It’s going to involve food, for sure. We haven’t slept or eaten a whole lot all week.”

Medill junior Matt Bellassai, who ran alongside Communication sophomore Jazzy Johnson, was disappointed to lose the election but said he appreciated Young and Jaidev as opponents with a great platform.

“I think Austin and Ash ran a great campaign,” he said. “I’m proud of them and I’m proud of my own team.”

Update: The correct percentages have been added.
