La La Land with producer Jordan Horowitz
He may go down in history as “the guy who gave the best picture Oscar from La La Land to Moonlight,” but Jordan Horowitz (Comm ‘02) has talent in his own regard, too. Brought to you by student film organization Studio 22, hear Horowitz talk about La La Land and being a movie producer. Owen L. Coon Forum in “old” Kellogg. A&O Productions and NSTV Present: Michael Che and Julio Torres
It’s like Saturday Night Live … but actually live, from NU. A&O Productions and Northwestern Student Television will bring SNL “Weekend Update” anchor and writer Michael Che and SNL writer Julio Torres for A&O’s second spring stand-up show. NSTV will also show some of its own SNL-esque comedy sketches. 8 p.m., Tech auditorium. $5.
Chicago is known for its hip-hop scene, but it’s usually the men – like Kanye West and Chance the Rapper – who get the attention. Northwestern Community Development Corps, Freshman Urban Program, the Contemporary Thought Speaker Series and Peace Project will challenge this in their panel “Gender in Chicago Hip-Hop,” also featuring performances by panelists Jamila Woods, TASHA and Kuumba Lynx. 8 p.m., Fisk 217. 2017 Senior Dance Concert: One More Time
Support your talented peers “one more time” (ha, get it?) at the Senior Dance showcase. Senior Dance students will perform a variety of dance pieces to show the progress they’ve made over their time at NU. 7:30 p.m., Dance Center Ballroom. Also May 26-27, 7:30 p.m. $5 for students.

Go see a film for two good reasons on Friday night – it’s made by students, and the proceeds will go to Apna Ghar, a Chicago charity helping domestic violence and abuse survivors. Applause for a Cause, a student film organization, will premiere its 2016-17 film, The Helsings, which focuses on past abuse and the supernatural in a mother-daughter relationship. 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., Tech auditorium. $5 for students.
A&O Films Presents: Get Out
It’s the film everyone’s been talking about this year, and A&O Films is giving you another chance to get in on the conversation. Join for the group’s last film of the year, Get Out, a race-based horror film created by comedian Jordan Peele. 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., McCormick Auditorium. Also May 27, 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.. Free.It’s a story you know too well, but Jewish Theatre Ensemble is giving it new depth. This weekend’s production of Hansel and Gretel will focus on themes of sacrifice, love and family, through an adaptation complete with original music. 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., Shanley Pavilion.
