Dreams Are Colder Than Death with Arthur Jafa
Budding filmmakers: This one’s for you. Come to the Mary & Leigh Block Museum of Art for a screening of director-cinematographer Arthur Jafa’s 2013 documentary and a Q-and-A with him afterward. Dreams Are Colder Than Death looks at Blackness in the U.S. 50 years after Martin Luther King Jr.’s March on Washington, featuring interviews from prominent thinkers including Kara Walker and Melvin Gibbs. 5:30 p.m., Block Museum. Free.
Amasa Hines at SPACE
If you haven’t been to SPACE, the only concert venue in Northwestern’s backyard, you’re really missing out. Check out nationally recognized rock band Amasa Hines for ~free~ at the venue, where local singer-songwriter Josefina will open. 8 p.m., SPACE. Free for Northwestern students.
Samantha Bee with Rebecca Traister
Let’s be real, though – we know where you’ll really be Tuesday night. You’ll be at A&O’s spring speaker event with late-night TV goddess Samantha Bee. Bee hosts Full Frontal on TBS, and is the first woman to host a late-night talk show after she previously worked as a correspondent for The Daily Show. Rebecca Traister, a writer at large for New York Magazine and contributing editor for Elle, will moderate what promises to be a funny and political talk. 8 p.m., Cahn Auditorium. $10.
March 3
Dance Marathon
Maybe you’re there for the music and dancing, maybe you’re there for the celebrity video appearances, maybe you’re there for the philanthropy or maybe you’re just a masochist. Regardless, Dance Marathon is definitely an entertaining event – even if you regret joining by Block Four. March 3-5, Norris Lawn.
