Sophomore running back Arby Fields to transfer

Northwestern running back Arby Fields has decided to transfer at the end of Fall Quarter.

Fields, a dual-sport student-athlete in both football and baseball, has suffered setbacks this football season, dropping from the depth chart and relegated to special teams duty after leading the team in rushing yards last season with 302 yards and five touchdowns. As a starting center fielder, Fields hit .292 with 27 RBI last spring.

His struggles started at the beginning of the season in the Vanderbilt opener, rushing ten times for minus-7 rushing yards, and quickly fell out of favor, replaced by the freshman tandem of Mike Trumpy and Adonis Smith.

Fields will seek to enroll in another school by January. It is not known whether he will continue to participate in both sports.

Fields is the third transfer in the past two years to leave Northwestern. Last year, backup wide receiver Martin Bayless Jr. left for FCS school Portland State and cornerback Caleb Harper left the program and transferred to Middle Tennessee State University.
