Original: Due to a lack of seating capacity, undergraduates will not be allowed to attend a Feb. 1 talk by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor at the Northwestern School of Law, said Jaci Thiede, the associate dean of alumni relations and development for the law school.
Sotomayor’s talk is part of the Howard J. Trienens Visiting Scholar Program. She will participate in a discussion with students and faculty all day about topics like the judicial process, legal issues and her experiences as a minority woman in the legal system.
“We’re delighted that someone of her caliber is visiting the law school,” Thiede said. “It gives our students and faculty access and exposure to a great legal mind in the United States.”
Sotomayor was sworn into the Supreme Court in 2009 after being nominated by President Barack Obama.The Trienens scholar program was established in 1989 and has a history of bringing Supreme Court justices to campus.
Sotomayor will speak at 3 p.m. in the Thorne Auditorium at 375 E. Chicago Ave. in Chicago.
