The job prospects for the class of 2009 might not be looking great, but for $17, at least they can share a champagne toast with President Bienen before heading out into the real world.

Senior Week 2009 tickets go on sale Wednesday at 8 a.m. online, and 10:30 a.m. at the Norris Box Office. Seniors must buy tickets for each event they plan on attending. Prices range from $3 to $47, depending on the event. Activities such as the Alumni Barbecue and a beach day are free.

The Northwestern tradition, held June 12-18 this year, will combine past favorites, such as the Last Lecture and the Goose Island Brewery Tour, with new events, such as a Toast to Graduation with President Bienen.

“Everyone can really come together and conclude our four years at Northwestern,” Senior Week co-chair Maggie Connors said. “It’s the first time a lot of seniors have no obligations.”

Some events are designed for the entire class, while other events have capped attendance, the Weinberg senior said. The Goose Island Brewery Tour, the trip to Dave and Busters and the Architectural River Boat Tour tend to sell out.

“We’re anticipating the champagne toast to sell out because it’s the first time we’ve ever had one,” Connors said. The event will be held at the John Evans Alumni Center on June 18, and families are invited to attend. This year marks the first time Senior Week has incorporated parents and families into the activities.

Other first-time events include a night at Chicago blues club Kingston Mines and a completely Northwestern-themed ComedySportz show. Additionally, the Senior Formal will be held at the Aragon Ballroom this year.

“We’ve completely revamped the Senior Formal,” Connors said. “We worked to select a really great venue and improve the menu.” Blue Plate Catering will provide appetizers.

“Overall, I think it’s going to be really fun,” she said.
