At approximately 3:30 this afternoon, a Northwestern sophomore was involved in a car crash at the intersection of Lincoln Street and Sheridan Road. According to the student, he was driving east on Lincoln, when a second driver, coming from Sheridan, ignored a red light and collided with his car.
The student’s vehicle, a silver Infiniti, suffered significant damage after colliding with the traffic light and needed to be towed away. The other driver’s white Volvo was damaged after crashing into the side of Patten Gym. Fortunately, no one was injured.
The student reported that the other driver was an older male who was driving at around 40-45 miles per hour. He said, “I didn’t notice the other driver until the car crash actually occurred.”
At least eight police cars arrived to the scene of the accident. Ten police officers blocked off a part of Sheridan, patrolled the traffic and questioned the student and observers. The other driver was taken to the police station for questioning.
The last car accident on campus also happened on Sheridan Road, when a 71 year-old elderly woman was struck and killed by a Mercedes Benz.
