SNL Star revealed as NU Homecoming Grand Marshal
With Saturday Night Live, Mean Girls, and a Seinfeld appearance on her résumé, what else would actress Ana Gasteyer want to do? Grand marshal Northwestern’s Homecoming Parade, of course.
The NU Alumni Association stated on Monday that the ‘89 alum will help lead the parade on Friday Oct. 17 before the Northwestern Wildcats vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers football game the next day.
Gasteyer will also be featured in “Who You Are Because of NU,” an alumni panel discussion led by President Morton Schapiro on Oct. 17 on how the university helps launch success.
NU unites with national mental health initiative
The Jed and Clinton Health Matters Campus Program announced Wednesday that it will partner with Northwestern to improve mental health services on campus. It will begin by delivering tailored feedback to an assessment of the university’s existing strategies, in and outside of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), which has been occasionally criticized for not providing adequate coverage for students.
The program focuses on helping schools combat the top issues that lead to death for young adults: substance abuse and suicide. Northwestern is one of 55 universities and colleges that have joined the program.
Bienen unbolts the door to music for local kids
Last Saturday, the Bienen School of Music jumpstarted the Fall 2014 Kids Fare concerts with an event allowing children to march alongside the Wildcat Marching Band last Saturday. The one-hour programs include a live chamber orchestra concert and an “instrument petting zoo” for kids aged 3 to 8. Tickets and event times are available online at http://www.pickstaiger.org.
