Prostitutin' at the parlor
On Thursday afternoon, a 48-year-old woman was arrested at an Evanston massage parlor for supposedly soliciting an undercover policeman. The cop had stationed himself in the parlor after the police department had received complaints of prostitution at the 1306 Sherman Ave. parlor. The Cook County Circuit Court in Skokie will see to the matter on Nov. 5 at 10:30 a.m. when the woman, Qian Y. Tang, is due to appear in court.
Deering receives a makeover
Thanks to a generous gift from alumna Leslie C. Devereaux, the Charles Deering Library will undergo improvements, including architectural restorations as well as the addition of technology, learning spaces and other elements needed by modern library-goers. Devereaux’s contribution will also benefit the Department of Athletics and Recreation and is part of the We Will campaign, a $3.75 billion University-wide fundraising initiative.
University seeks new assistant provost
In an email to the Northwestern community, Provost Daniel Linzer announced that Dona Cordero, assistant provost for diversity and inclusion, will be leaving Northwestern to take a new position at the Georgia Institute of Technology in November. In the meantime, Executive Director of Campus Inclusion and Community in Student Affairs Lesley-Ann Brown and Assistant Dean of Diversity and Inclusion in The Graduate School Nsombi Ricketts, will serve as co-chairs of the University Diversity Council. As the university seeks to find a replacement for Cordero, nominations of potential candidates are welcomed at diversityandinclusion@northwestern.edu.
Exhibition of race held at museum
Together, the American Anthropological Association and the Science Museum of Minnesota have developed "RACE: Are We So Different?" the first national exhibition telling stories of racism in the United States from biological, cultural and historical perspectives. Displayed by the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center and the YWCA Evanston/North Shore, the exhibition will be held until Jan. 25, 2015.
