ASG holds RedesigNU competition
McCormick sophomore Matt Ehinger and Weinberg sophomore Eric Brownrout’s mobile app won the $2,000 grand prize at Northwestern’s first RedesignNU Hackathon this weekend. The Hackathon lasted 24 hours and aimed to develop “innovative solutions for the student experience.” McCormick sophomores Michael Wang and Gregory Leung created a scheduling application called CourseDJ, which won the $1,000 runner-up prize.
Medill Justice Project helps overturn a wrongful conviction
Due to the work of the Medill Justice Project, Jennifer Del Prete, a daycare provider convicted in a shaken-baby syndrome case, will be released after almost serving 10 years in prison. U.S District Court Judge Matthew F. Kennelly ordered her release in a “rare ruling” after undergraduate journalists uncovered a letter that disclosed the innocence of Del Prete.
Professor honored as Distinguished Fellow
The American Economic Association recognized Weinberg Professor J. Gordon as a Distinguished Fellow for his research on economic growth. Gordon, the Stanley G. Harris Professor in the Social Sciences, is one of four economists who were named as fellows and is a Fellow of the Econometric Society and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. His father also won the recognition in 1972.
University commemorates Earth Week
Students celebrate Earth Week with the annual presentation of Mount Trashmore near Lunt Hall and Bike2Campus Week. Student groups along with the Office of Sustainability in Facilities Management aimed its programming on the seven themes of community, energy, food, transportation, climate change, water and waste.
