New blog says: F*ck yeah Evan Watkins!

The Huffington Post. Deadspin. Perez Hilton. These are some of the more (in)famous mainstream blogs that will stand out when we look back at the development of the World Wide Web. But there is one blog currently flying under the radar which will not make it into the upper echelon of the blogosphere.

This blog is called “F*ck Yeah Evan Watkins,” and it is a tribute, in a style reminiscent of Chuck Norris jokes, to Northwestern’s backup quarterback and redshirt freshman Evan Watkins.

The first post went up Sept. 5 after the first game of the 2010 season, a 23-21 road victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores. Despite seeing no game action against the Commodores, Watkins was named Player of the Week by the blog. Watkins then completed 2 of 5 passes for 31 yards in the next two games, earning the blog’s Player of the Week award for both weeks as well.

A frequent target of the Watkins blog is starting quarterback Dan Persa, or more accurately, Dan Persa’s height. The Wildcats’ starting quarterback is listed at 6’1” on the team’s website, compared to the 6’6” Watkins. Despite Persa’s exceptional play this season, he has failed to impress this mysterious blogger, who has frequently attacked his diminutive stature.

Posts have referred to Persa as an “honorary member of the Lollipop Guild” and “a boy with safety pins holding up his football pants.” Conversely, Watkins is known as a “hunk of steel sporting a jersey specially made to fit his massive biceps” and “Evan Almighty.”

The blog also has a Twitter account under the inconspicuous name @FakeEvanWatkins, which updates frequently during games when “Watkins” is on the sidelines.

The real Evan Watkins has declined to comment on the blog. When approached about the topic, however, a sly grin did come across his face, acknowledging that he was very much aware of its existence.

Although the real Evan Watkins will not talk about the blog’s exploits, you can be sure that his alter ego will give you his thoughts loud and clear.
