Men's golf season ends at NCAA Baton Rouge Regional
By

Despite a strong third round and a standout performance from senior Nick Losole, Northwestern failed to advance in the NCAA men's golf tournament Saturday, finishing eighth out of 13 teams in the Baton Rouge Regional. The 'Cats shot a 12-over 300 for their best score on the weekend, coming 13 strokes out of the top five qualifiers. Top-seeded Albama, No. 2 Florida, No. 3 LSU, No. 7 Tennessee and No. 9 Coastal Carolina all move on to the next round of Tourney play.

In his final outing as a Wildcat, Losole birdied his first hole Saturday and concluded the Tournament with a 5-over 221, good for 12th place in individual performance. Losole finishes his Northwestern career with the eighth-best stroke average in program history.

Junior Jack Perry shot another 74, reprising his Friday performance, and finished 17th overall. His ninth top-20 outing in 11 events, Perry will return for a hyped senior season next year after leading the Big Ten in stroke average for 2012-13.

Sophomore Bennett Lavin started slowly with three bogeys before finishing with a 74 as well, while Matthew Negri shot a regional-best 76 Saturday. Two double-bogeys on early holes plagued freshman Andrew Whalen.

Northwestern ends its season after being seeded sixth in the Baton Rouge regional. The Wildcats' women's golf team plays at the 2013 NCAA Championships beginning Tuesday after advancing through the East regional this past week.
