KevJumba admits his father is cooler and more popular than him. This is just one of many running jokes the 21-year-old YouTube star has. His well-loved father occasionally appears in his videos as the stereotypical overbearing "Asian father."
Kevin Wu, one of YouTube's most subscribed comedians, spoke at a spring speaker event on Sunday sponsored by the Asian Pacific American Coalition, Chinese Students Association and Taiwanese American Students Club.
Wu was on campus as to promote the independent comedy film Hang Loose, and he attended a premiere showing and Q&A session. The film revolves around 18-year-old Kevin (played by Wu) and a day-long adventure in Hawaii, where his sister gets married.
“It’s about him bursting out of his comfort zone and out of his shell,” Wu said. “I really grew up through YouTube, and this movie is about the growing up process.”
The short film maps the journey of Kevin and his brother-in-law, Dante, as they experienced a night involving strip clubs, Asian gangsters and literally getting their balls blown off – pretty bad ass for a boy who gets his ass whooped by his dad.
