i am begging you to beg me to stay

we've been here before, i think

all of our atoms pressed together

fused in the way physical things can never get right

it's easy to get caught up in this.

i am handing you another clementine

we rip the innocent thing in half together,

orange pulp on your thumb, my thumb

there is almost something unholy about the way you have me

like the canopy and ribs of an umbrella

    closing around its handle.

you believe that god could be omnipotent

    or compassionate, but not both

at least you believe in consistency

your name a synonym for necessity

have you thought about being something bigger than what we are?
