By

Block 7’s message featured Kerry Wood, former pitcher for the Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Indians and New York Yankees. Never heard of him? You might not be as big of a Cubs fan as you thought you were, but don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with five things to know.

    1. He and his wife Sarah created the Wood Family Foundation in 2011. The foundation is set right in Chicago and advocates for children in Chicago neighborhoods.

    2. He made his Major League debut when he was 20 years old. He was also named the National League rookie of the year that same year.

    3. He helped break the Cubs’ 95-year playoff series losing streak. The Cubs had failed to win a single playoff series since 1908, and Wood led the team to victory by pitching eight innings of five-hit ball.

    4. Don’t believe he can pitch fast - take a look at this photo. He couldn’t toss the ball without making the photo blurry.

    5. During his time with the Cleveland Indians, he was sidelined by a blister on his right index finger. Talk about tough luck.
