A fire destroyed three Evanston businesses this morning, said a press release from the city of Evanston.
Pine Yard Restaurant, TechniColour Nail & Day Spa and Taco Diablo Taqueria & Cantina were all destroyed by the fire. The fire was reported at 2:24 a.m. at Pine Yard Restaurant, located at 1033 Davis St. Support from surrounding communities arrived as the fire was upgraded to an extra alarm, and then a second alarm shortly after. All of the businesses were closed at the time of the fire.
“Eight different communities responded, so there were a lot of firetrucks, very few bystanders and police as well that had to block off streets to prevent traffic from coming down," said Martha Logan, Community Engagement Coordinator for the City Manager's Office. Logan added that none of the business owners were at the scene.
The nearby Bramer Animal Hospital evacuated twelve animals. Wheel & Sprocket Bike Shop, located adjacent to the fire, was saved by a fire wall. The store has sustained smoke and water damage. An Evanston firefighter was transported to Evanston Hospital after being treated at the scene for an ankle injury.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, a process which Logan said "will begin as soon as they are able to get things under control."
