Media professor Everette Dennis of Fordham University will serve as the new dean of Northwestern University in Qatar, Provost Dan Linzer announced Monday.
Dennis leads the Center for Communications and chairs the Communication and Media Management department at Fordham, where he is also a professor in the Graduate School of Business. He has led numerous journalism departments and foundations, and has served as as the founding director of the Media Studies Center at Columbia University and as the dean of the School of Journalism and Communication at the University of Oregon.
He has authored and co-authored dozens of books on media, including Understanding Media in the Digital Age (2010) and Understanding Mass Communications.
Dennis will take over July 1, 2011. The outgoing NU-Q dean, John Margolis, has lead the school since its start in 2007.
