Couple gets engaged on the Lakefill
By

Although Friday's weather drew swarms of students to the lakefill, most sunbathers didn't notice the couple standing near the rocks. A few observant students, however, found they couldn't look away. After standing with their arms around one another for several minutes, Vilas Jagannath lowered himself to one knee and asked Diana Jaffe to marry him.

"It was so sweet and touching to watch," said Ali Guttridge, a visiting student from Washington University. Guttridge and Weinberg freshman Wendy Cyffka sat on the grass, watching the proposal unfold.

Jaffe said yes, and drew Jagannath to his feet for a hug. The two met during an internship in Bangalore, India in 2007, and are moving to Evanston this summer. Jagannath graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign today, and Jaffe will begin Kellogg's two-year MBA program in the fall.
