Like many millennials, I claim to be obsessed with many things. For reference, see my last two blogs on coats and sweaters, me everytime I go to Forever Yogurt, etc. Having said that, if you believe me once, believe me now: I have a high-key obsession with boots. Tall or short, leather or suede, black or brown – I love them all. So of course I had to dedicate one of these blog posts and one day of shopping to the boot of all boots: the short bootie. As usual, Nordstrom did not have any shortage on gorgeous, lovable boots. Most, however, were well over $200. So, as always, I fell in love with the styles but not the price and scavenged the mall for cheaper look-alikes like my GPA depended on it.
COMPARISON #1
Dear Mom, I have fallen in love. Maybe I should have saved this one for last but I was too ecstatic about this find. To say these Prada boots are gorgeous would be an understatement, so my lovestruck eyes did not even dream of seeing another boot that could substitute for them. Not only was this one of my best matches in the one-month history of Designer Doppelgangers, the Forever 21 boots were TEN DOLLARS (Apologies go out to everyone actually shopping in the store when I found that boot, since I may have audibly freaked a little).
COMPARISON #2
The best thing that can happen when I am searching for these Doppelganger pairs is that I end up liking the cheaper pair more than the expensive one. This was one of those times. If you’re going to buy a pair of boots with a reptile pattern as cool as these (which you definitely should), the whole boot might as well be covered in it, a sentiment that Lucky Brand luckily followed. Plus, they are less than half the price of the Munro boots.
COMPARISON #3
Prada has done an unbelievable job at letting me fall in love with their shoes and then breaking my heart into two when I catch a glimpse of the price tag. Suede is in for the season, but paying almost $800 for a pair of boots is not. There may be a day in our future - when the hell that is Winter Quarter midterms week and all the finals weeks to come have paid off - that we will be able to buy as many pairs of Prada boots our mansion’s closets can hold. Until that moment comes, Style and Co. gives us this grey suede pair, for nearly 10% of the cost.
COMPARISON #4
Quick secret about me: I hate heels. I’m not the most elegant walker to begin with, so adding heels to an outfit usually ends in embarrassment for me. Thankfully, an exception are heeled boots. They are truly a beautiful thing and these black Donald Pliner boots with a hint of snakeskin are a prime example, as are the Style and Co. ones I found at Macy’s for less than a third of the cost.
More to Come
My next blog post, coming to you in two weeks, involves that thing that your mom insists you are not getting enough of: the sun. Sunglasses have been, in my opinion, a very underrated accessory. There are some incredible styles out there. Because I want to own them all but I refuse to pay designer prices for each of them, I did what I do and found cheaper versions of some new spring styles. I know, I know, it’s the middle of January, but I am definitely the type of person that will buy bathing suits and sunglasses in anticipation of warmer weather.
