Mayfest has announced R&B artist Daniel Caesar as its first Dillo Day artist for this year's festival. Caesar is a Grammy-nominated artist who first garnered widespread acclaim for his 2014 EP Praise Break, which was ranked on Rolling Stone's top 20 R&B albums of the year.
Caesar, whose real name is Ashton Simmons, originally hails from Canada. His songs frequently draw on themes of religion, which was a big part of his childhood, as well as unrequited love and community. His breakout single "Get You" has a listenership of over 4,000,000 per month. Since his debut in 2014, he has released two other works (another EP titled Pilgrim's Paradise in 2015 and his first full album, Freudian in 2017).
Caesar will perform at Dillo Day on June 2, and his music is available on both Spotify and Apple Music.
