    as we ascended,

    barely scratching the atmosphere,

    the clouds were cotton candy

    were whipped cream peaks

    were blinding as snow in the sun

    were mocking the aircraft

    and it scared me that purity is malicious

    that no one else was startled by the faceless puffs of water vapor

    engulfing everything
