Classes might have just begun at Northwestern, but Camp is just around the corner.
Childish Gambino will headline A&O Blowout 2013 on Friday, Oct. 11 at Welsh-Ryan Arena, the student organization announced in a press release. Tickets will be $10 and can be purchased through Norris Box Office, but official sale dates and showtimes have not be finalized due to contractual considerations. Additionally, A&O could not disclose who the opening act would be in accordance with Northwestern University legal regulations.
Donald "Childish Gambino" Glover, also plays Troy Barnes on the NBC sitcom Community and released his debut album Camp through Glassnote Records in 2011. The album reached the number 11 spot on the Billboard Top 200 chart, and number two on the Billboard Hip-Hop chart. A&O called Gambino "one of the most exciting young talents in music," and his music "forward-thinking and pop-minded," in the press release.
Rosalind Mowitt, A&O's co-director of marketing and media, said students should be ready for an exciting and energetic performance from Gambino.
"He’s done Coachella, he’s done a lot of live stuff in front of tens of thousands of people, and he gives a spectacular live performance," Mowitt said.
Mowitt also lauded Gambino's wide appeal and lyrical intelligence, explaining, "He’s someone you can sing along to. A lot of people are familiar with his lyrics … and he does a lot of pop culture references and a lot of play-on-words, so it’s going to be a clever show."
A&O also announced Wednesday night that tickets for their upcoming fall Blowout concert will be available for undergraduate purchase starting Monday, Oct. 7 at 10 a.m.
Each individual ticket will cost $10 through the Norris Box Office website and the first students who arrive at the show will also receive floor seats wristbands. A fraction of these wristbands will also be reserved for the first 100 seniors who buy a ticket.
For everyone else, A&O will also be automatically entering all ticket purchasers into a raffle for a free ski trip package from NU Ski Trip.
The opening act has yet to be announced. Free shuttles to and from the venue are available from Cahn and Lincoln starting 5:45 p.m., as doors open at 6:30 p.m.
WildCards are also required and there is no re-entry or cameras allowed at the venue.
