ASG takes Title IX Measures, elects commisioners
By ,

At the meeting tonight, ASG announced that multiple Title IX measures are being taken. The University will hire a full-time Title IX investigator, who will be trained to conduct sexual harassment and violence investigations for the Office of Sexual Harassment Prevention and the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution.

A group has been analyzing the available options for a student campus climate survey about sexual assault, relationship and domestic violence. Northwestern plans to use a vendor’s survey, which will be sent to all students in April. Also, a draft for a new discipline process to be used in Title IX cases involving faculty has been prepared and shared with the Faculty Senate Handbook Committee members.

An effort is also being made to make the Title IX website more friendly, and the Title IX Coordinating Committee seeks student ideas on ways to better publicize Northwestern’s Title IX events.

Also during the meeting, Dana Leinbach was elected as Parliamentarian after she served as a substitute Parliamentarian last quarter. All those who were nominated for commissioners were elected tonight.

Leinbach commented on her past experience and what she thinks worked well.

“Reading through the campaign rules with each member personally and making yourself available to them – that worked really well [in my experience on the commission],” she said. “People don’t want to commit violations. It happens out of ignorance.”

Also, Association of Big Ten Students is creating a dining master plan and plans to hold a focus group with Senate soon. The next six months will be centered around what the future of dining will look like on campus.

The community sustainability website will also be completed within the next two weeks, and the Sustainability Impact Fund will be launched within the next one to two weeks, at which point anyone will be able to donate.

Finally, three Wild Ideas proposals passed, including funding for publishing Veracity Magazine, funding for Polish culture night and funding for a book club, The Third Plate.
