America’s Next Top Model: “Welcome to New Zealand”
By

    “We in New Zealand, y’all!”

This week’s episode transplanted the models to New Zealand (which is not “above Canada,” as Jessica thought). Straight off the plane, Miss Jaye instructed them to visit as many go-sees as they could during a four-hour time limit.

The claws really came out. Raina spotted Alexandra entering a go-see and pushed in front of her to get there first. Angelea worked it, despite her plane hair, and ended up booking six out of the six go-sees. She was also the only model to make it to all six designers. Alasia impressed a swimwear designer with her curves. When time was up, though, only Jessica, Angelea and Alexandra returned on time. The others were eliminated, even though Krista was only three minutes late. Raina got lost, and Alasia, after leaving her map at the last designer’s, was 45 minutes late (surprise, surprise).

At the week’s photo shoot, the girls posed with a “horny beast” (in Nigel’s words) that was really just a fluffy sheep with curly horns. For the first time, Angelea and Jessica seemed off their game. As usual, Alasia posed over and over in the exact same way. Alexandra, Krista, and Raina delivered solid photo shoots.

Judging was hilariously awkward, especially when Angelea did a “walking through the club” impression for a panel of bewildered judges. Seriously, what was that? It seems Angelea does have some weaknesses after all. When the pressure’s on and we’re already down to six girls, how long will she survive?

When it came down to it, Jessica and Alasia ended up in the bottom two, and Alasia was sent home. She did well for an amateur, but it just wasn’t enough to secure her spot.

I predict the rise of a new era — the Krista era. Krista’s been owning the last two weeks. This is unfortunate for Angelea, who has gotten used to being number one. It’s difficult to say whether Jessica can get past her “commercial” look and really bring something more “high fashion” to her film. From the beginning, I’ve thought that although she’s beautiful, she looks too conventional to be truly edgy. I’m glad to see that Alexandra has gotten her groove back, but I can’t say how long it will last. One thing’s for sure though. Next week, with only five girls remaining, the claws won’t only be out — they’ll rip and tear too.
