Weinberg sophomore Anna Distefano and McCormick freshman Jiajia Luo learn about what the Evanston Streets and Sanitation crew call "Tree-age," which involves planting new trees and placing mulch around older ones to combat the high tree mortality rate in Evanston's "urban forest." 
The Evanston Treekeepers was just one of seven groups taking part in the Environmental Day of Service, volunteering all over Evanston and the Chicagoland area. By participating in the Day of Service, the students were able to both give back to the environment and win points for the Green Cup.

For the first time, ASG held the Environmental Day of Service. Last Saturday, students could volunteer at one of seven locations on campus and in Evanston, where they could help with cleaning up litter, gardening, mulching and preserving prairies. With the Green Cup competition is underway, students won points for their group by volunteering. NBN followed the Evanston Treekeepers, who were in charge of maintaining trees in Clark Square.
