Communication sophomore Mori Einsidler will open for Homecoming concert headliner Cary Brothers (WCAS ‘95), A&O Productions announced online Monday night.

Einsidler — who performs and records under the name MORI — won a week-long online vote against three opponents on A&O Productions’ website. She’ll perform a 15-minute solo acoustic set before Cary Brothers at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall Thursday at 8 p.m.

She said she’d expected to hear Tuesday if she’d won. When she received an email announcing her victory Monday afternoon, she was surprised. “I couldn’t really move,” she said. “I was super psyched.”

Einsidler won out against student artists Kara Ali Goldsmith, Travis Knauss and the band Rum Lotus. She had created a Facebook page and asked friends to spread the word about the vote.

She described her music as “rock with an indie pop twist.” She released an EP online last year called Killing Time, and she’s working on a new recording with music technology professor Brett Masteller.

She said she saw Brothers in concert a few years ago and looks forward to playing with him.

“It’s great exposure for her from one successful Northwestern grad hopefully to another,” said Weinberg junior Stephanie Weinstein, Homecoming co-chair.

Free tickets are available for all students, faculty and staff at Norris Box Office. Alumni tickets are also available at the box office, but will cost $20.
