Evanston campus urged to reduce water use

The City of Evanston has asked Northwestern University to reduce its water use on the Evanston campus, a university notification on Jan. 30, 2009, said.

According to University Relations Vice President Al Cubbage, the City of Evanston is experiencing problems with pumping water from Lake Michigan because of a freeze in the intake water pipe. Cubbage could not say whether the problem would lead to water-supply restrictions in Evanston.

Students, faculty and staff on the Evanston Campus are urged to curtail activities that require water usage as much as possible. The reduction in usage should continue until further notice from the City, according to the university statement.
